Now that the first phase of flood relief is almost getting over and the next phase of rebuilding has begun, there is a need to recognise, value and acknowledge the empowering and reassuring leadership of the Chief Minister of Kerala, Mr Pinarayi Vijayan. He led the rescue efforts with considerable co-ordiantion!
Mr Vijayan postponed his visit to the Mayo Clinic, USA for his treatment to be physically present to monitor the process of relief! That too was exemplary!
What I want to particularly comment is the extreme restrain The Chief Minister exercised by not making any adverse comment, about any matter, even when there was an attempt to bring disruption to the unified efforts of the state and the civil society! That was true statesmanship!
Mr Vijayan's approach is a noble example for politicians in India to govern by unifying people!
It is on occasions like this we get a glimpse of the true spirit of political service without being restrained by the narrow considerations of party politics.
It is commendable that the political parties in Kerala have risen to the occasion to reflect in their behaviour the healthy traditions of the Westminister political order and benchmark! Well done, leaders of political parties!
So among other examples of many good practices of democracy, the state of Kerala has the distinction of leading by example to be collaborative beyond party considerations for the common good!
