Building!

A builder is one who attends to the present needs and prepares for the future.

I was at a meeting yesterday organized by the College of Nursing of the MOSC Medical College to explore the theme, ‘Clinical Neurology and Emerging opportunities for Nurses’. The Principal, Dr Sheela Shenoy, is a builder with a vision and mission. I heard her speak about this yesterday in her welcome address. Whether it is the vocation of Nursing, academics, bedside practices or specialised areas of Nursing, extra-curricular activities or campus life of Nurses, Dr Sheela has promoted initiatives and creative exploration.

Everyone who has the responsibility of building an institution, does so by first building a team and then empowering the team to pursue the mission. I sensed this while present at the meeting.

A builder is no more seen once the ‘biilding’ is over. The builder’s contributions remain. But the builder might not be remembered thereafter!

A builder is therefore a selgivung person because he or she offers the skills and efforts to create something for others. Those who build with such an altruism builds communities who would go beyond  the vision of the earlier builders!

The building process of an institution is a relay process! We are transient but what we leave behind is historical!
