This Magpie Robin and Wood Pecker are normal residents in our garden. They normally stay away from each other. It surprised me to seem them together on one morning recently.
They were comfortable with each other that the Wood Pecker was even engaged in in its bird call. No bird sings unless it feels restful.
I hear almost everyday from different conversations about the opposite in human behaviour. It looks like even colleagues live uncomfortable with others. There is suspicion and subtle or overt indifference or hostility.
I felt enthused by this sight of two birds who normally keep a distance from each other. The prophetic vision of Isiah of the Old Testament in the Bible, of the lion and lamb dwelling together could be a reality if only humans see each other as part of each other!
I know of a dog and cat dwelling together in one home; I know how Dr Paul Brand while working at CMC Vellore went out of his way to dress the ulcer in the foot of a person with leprosy, who had earlier complained against him to the Collector of Vellore, about Dr Brand intending to 'convert' his patients to Christian faith; I Know how Dr Frank Garlick were generous towards some students who were critical of him staying on at CMC vellore, while encouraging younger doctors to go to rural hospitals to work... !
There is hope of peace and cordiality even when the other person is hostile! This was the mission of Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus greeted Judas as friend, when Judas came to betray Jesus to the captors, who were waiting to seize Jesus to crucify Him.
It is world of hostility, competition and aggression.
Make it otherwise!
