Anna and I felt refreshed by the visit of Sue and Mike as our conversations covered many happy memories spread over forty years.
Relationships are renewed by recollections and reviews.
What is significant in such conversations is listening to participate in the stories of others. Some stories are easy for narration and some are intense or distressing.
In Logotherapy, which Victor Frankel introduced, different form the usual psychoanalysis, there is an emphasis on listening to oneself while conversing with others to upbuild and move on. In story telling, therefore, we do not stay in the past glued to the events or matrix of the past, but receive new insights and clarity to move on with hope and purpose.
The purpose in life and living is the center from which we move to all the opportunities in life.
To live with that purpose amidst all the events of which shall become part of is, one safe way of living soberly even in compelling circumstances.
Often it is the listener and the way he or she listens helps in receiving strength from story times.
