Birds live alertly to all sights and sounds in their environment. It is lesson in living that we can draw from watching some birds. They have a quick nd decisive response to anything that is not comfortable or threatening!
Birds who are small are more swift and sensitive ! It is a survival instinct for them.
Following the recent national elections in India, the new government is sending a few significant signals. They released a report pending with the government on changing the educational system in schools, where learning a third language is mandatory and Sanskrit learning would be made available at school level. There are ministers in the government who have spoken out of turns about one city being a 'terrorist' centre. The citizen's bill welcoming people from one religious community from the neighbouring countries is being talked about. There is a talk about 'one party' system as the way forward as the current party in government has an impressive majority! The prime minster before taking the oath, bows before a book counting the constitution of India, but views the constitution through the optic of his cultural frame of thinking. To me these are alarm signals.
When one views the rapid changes taking place in the USA under the present administration, the latest being the need to submit the social media access as a requirement to seek visa to visit the USA, one wonders if we are regressing in our democratic values and sovereign rights of individuals!
It is time we view our polity circumspectly. There is a compulsive instinct I sense in our leadership to control, impose and regulate people to conform to one ideology. The current dispensation of leadership is known to conceal facts, twist information, propagate issues to subdue people by creating fear...!
It is a time to live vigilantly and continue working vicariously!
There is a totalitarian spirit in the air! Any dissent is not viewed favourably! There are some strong political voices which to me are contrary to it, but carry a virulent hate in their attitude. That too is not an answer.
We need a political attitude and vocation to engage nonviolently and with love. At a time when the congress party has lost badly, I read yesterday, that its president who has resigned from the leadership owning the responsibility for its poor electoral performance, spoke about engaging the government decisively but with love and tolerance.
Oh, that this language which can restore togetherness and cohesiveness woeful be heard from the leaders in the government!
