The sky was downcast by the afternoon yesterday, while I was driving back from Vellore. It was already raining in one of the mountain ranges.
I noticed these two sparrows on the high tension electric supply cable, blissfully in beholding gaze and conversation!
I was fascinated by this contrasting sight. The monsoon rain brings with it a torrential downpour which can adversely affect many. But the birds do not feel threatened by it. They live their private lives.
I have felt overwhelmed in the recent weeks with disturbing news of friends having had to face real health challenges. It is now five years since my own cardiac by-pass surgery. Every health situation is stressful, more so if it is a chronic illness.
What fascinated me yesterday was, how these two birds celebrate their togetherness even when it was threatening to rain!
Among the all things which the world provides today for all of us, what seems to be scarce is self-giving friendships! We long to receive without being generous in giving!
Giving attention to others is one way of creating space for friendships!
