No takers for berries!

These berries are on the wall in the rear portion of our cottage. These berries used to be bird's favourite feeds. But his year, it is not so. These berries are sweet and are safe for human consumption.

One unfortunate thing that happened during the last year in our garden is the multiplication of the crows. Once crows are too many, other smaller birds get displaced.

This imbalance gets corrected automatically over a period of time. The nature has its own provisions to give opportunity for all.

However humans who are the 'keepers' of the environment often seek their interest alone, that too for immediate gain!

There is restriction to construct high risers along the marine drive in Kochi. But there are muti-story buildings with hundreds living in them. The coast line has become polluted that marine life is under threat. The Supreme court has ordered the demolition of the high rise buildings as they were constructed violating the rules.

What the crows are to other birds in our garden, the builders are to the civil society! The builders who are 'powerful' and 'well connected' get a nod to exploit unmindful of the permanent damage they create in the environment.

It was the civl rights movement in the United States America which established racial equality.  It is the civil society who is the keeper of the conscience of the society. I have less trust in the political system especially after what I witnessed during the recent national elections, where hateful language was used to 'demolish' others. It continues even after the election, which is sanctioned by the ruling dispensation in the country!

There is space for everyone! There is opportunity for all. Let us not usurp what rightfully belongs to others!
