As I watch the banana plants struggle to survive the heat (Second photo), I am amazed the way they cope.
Each day more leaves dry up and drop. That is inspite of our efforts to water them.
The summer heat each day has a cumulative effect. Some plants do not survive. The soil is not able to sustain them as the ground water level has gone further down.
Let me suggest that at the end of 21 days of social restrictions at this time of outbreak of corona infection, we ought to anticipate some symptoms of weariness or anxious state in many.
It is necessary to create more help line phone call facility for people to find respite when they feel overwhelmed by loneliness or social aloofness.
Following the lifting of the restrictions, when people return to work, transition counselling would also be needed.
I wonder whether each institution would create a 'wellness plan' during this locked in period and for the immediate season following this!
Thousand who are alcohol dependent in the state of Kerala are denied of their daily drink with bars and beverage shops closed. How about them! They have an awful state of emotional disorder to cope with now.
The corona control measures have created other new health risks in the community. Not able to work can unsettle some. Not having an income due to loss of daily labour is another stress for many!
We owe to the society to be mindful of the emerging high risk states in our population.
Will the churches, hospitals, NGO's, Medical associations or others take a lead to be in the forefront to create helplines of support!
