What makes this child feel disappointed is the difficulty to balance while walking even at five years. The placement of legs on the ground which ought to be heel first and then teh forefoot is reversed in this child. The feet cross the midline and obstructs the alternate movements.
A child who is cognitively well finds this difficult to endure. The more effort the child makes to overcome this difficulty, the more might be the frustration in not being able to do so. In fact the muscles co-ordinate better if child keeps a slower pace and walks leisurely!
Making an effort to walk makes the walking more difficult because the muscles become stiff! If only the child can let go herself into the hands of her mother who supports she would need to exercise less effort!
This to me has become a symbol for living! It is when we let ourselves relax we can function better. Most of the episodes of headache, I trace to a stress I invite on myself.
What it means to let go! In letting go, we allow the experiences of life to be a passage into something beyond! The experiences, joyful or stressful do not hold us back, but move us forward !
As walking is a movement form one station to the other, so is living. It is a movement forward even if it is a detour or travelling through hair pin bends!
Life is a encounter experience with ourselves and God who holds us !
