It is the third time during the two months of monsoon, the fields on either side of the road, we take to go the hospital are submerged because of heavy downpour!
The dams constructed for hydroelectric source of electricity are full and a red alert has been given for the people living on either side of the road along the Periyar river, to be ready to vacate their homes at short notice, if the shutters of the dam would need to be open! The water would reach finally the already swollen river leading to overflowing!
This monsoon has been heavy with flooding towns, villages and acres of land so much so there are about 200 shelters created for families who have had to vacate their homes.
The efforts of the government authorities and volunteers thus far, have been commendable by providing food, potable water and other amenities to those hundreds living in temporary accommodation!
Life and living bring its own challenges. This time is the nature's fury! There is a debate on the case fo this- waterbodies were filled and used for constructing townships! If that is so, we are paying the price for it now!
