Drs Ashita nd Deepak received the college motto award of CMC Vellore last week end, during the alumni gathering. They work at a mission hospital at Chinchpada in Maharashtra. They earlier revived the Baptist Mission Hospital at Tezpur.
Deepak a Paediatric surgeon, and Ashita, an internist with training in critical care shared their journey into this consciousness of giving themselves to people who are disadvantaged ! Most of us in the audience listened to their story with wet eyes, when they told us in a choking voice, that they were about to take their two children to a boarding school in the following week!
While they live their calling, they too carry pain of separation from their children and face several other inconveniences!
Life for them is an opportunity for sharing and caring!
Anna and I knew Ashita and her parents, Pushpa and Sathu Waghmare, during our time in Nagpur in the late seventies. What a joy it was to hear Ashita and Deepak speak in packed auditorium form their hearts to our hearts!
