We were the third family who ordered for Puri for breakfast at a hotel yesterday! When we are north India, we see people ordering for Iddli !
Some food have become pan-Indian! When I was a student at Nagpur in the mid sixties, there was no food of south India in the menu in most hotels!
I have been gathering changes in the food habits that have taken place over these years!
It was unthinkable that people living in the state of Kerala would move away from a rice based diet to wheat base diet ! But it has happened!
Traditions can change!
One tradition that I feel that is overdue for a change is to let newly the newly married couple to be given freedom to have their own separate home rather than stay in the boy's home! This to me is part of 'leaving parents and cleaving to each other as husband and wife' as expected in marriage ! I long to see that as the norm with allowance for exceptions!
