Three cheers !

The final year examination results of Medical students at MOSC Medical college arrived recently. Kirthana was placed in the second rank in the University.

This batch of medical students had reduced clinical training during the COVID season when they were forced to be at home with the college closed. For the rest of the time they had on line classes and less exposure to clinical training with wards out of bounds during the COVID season. They were disadvantaged with only one clinical posting in a department that too without the usual clinical bed side learning. For about two and half years their usual learning schedule was dislocated.

In the midst of it all, some students completed their ICMR research projects and excelled in the final examination.

While listening to a few of them last week, I realised how unprepared they feel as they begin the internship shortly. All the experiences of bedside learning of procedures, clinical appraisals, and learning the symptomatology of clinical conditions did not happen enough which is what usually would make junior residents feel confident to be involved in patient care.

Anna and I send you floral greetings with flowers form our garden, to all medical students who have endured an unexpected disruption in their learning experience.

The department where I work, Developmental Paediatrics uploaded a video of greetings to medical students in 2021, when students were away from hospital. The video in U-tube: https://youtu.be/T_Sqkeps2ck was our small effort to express our solidarity with all the medical students.

Anna and I send our warm regards and food wishes as they get ready to start their internship and  move on in their professional journey!
