A white Breasted Kingfisher!

This commonest kingfisher has its habit of resting on cables near a post. When disturbed it flies away to a tall tamarind tree at a distance. It is one species of kingfisher which does not always stay near a waterbody. Its loud cackling, uttered during flight is what makes me alert of its presence in the vicinity. It also has a near musical, frequently repeated loud chattering song, which is its pattern.

Its complexion is what makes it special among the avians in our campus. A 'brilliant turquoise blue bird with deep chocolate brown head, neck, underparts, a conspicuous white shirt front and long and heavy pointed red bill'. What a combination! This complexion and colour combination is an  exceptional body design!

This season is their breeding time usually in gapes and holes on walls in dry land.

No wonder the environmentalists are loud about preserving our neighbourhood for the flora and fauna.
