I heard the loud call of cocks and hens in nearby a bush on my way to hospital. I stopped the car to explore the site! It was a cock fight. The first five photographs are the sequences in the first bout lasting about a minute. The last photo was the beginning of the second round, which got interrupted as the house owner came to chase away the neighbour's cock (black one). The black cock crosses over to this territory every day and the red and brown cock resists it. Both can go on for several minutes if they are not disturbed.
What interested me was how the red and brown cock appeared to be slow in its response to the charged attacking mood of the black one. But it was the red and brown cock that overpowered the black one finally. The black one was bigger in size.
Those who appear to be weak are not necessarily weak! They choose to appear weak or refuse to be intimidated or tolerate the intimidation.
There are thousands who gather in Madurai(Tamil Nadu) suburban areas during the Pongal festival to watch cock fights. It is a big event with betting.
The elderly gentleman was amused that I stopped and took photographs of this everyday affair! He told me that he does not normally interfere in the hope that the two cocks would finally become friendly. His comment, 'I do not want to turn this into a fight between the two neighbours'. A wise man!
