The above Kingfisher, if it is a black capped Kingfisher with a red bill, then it is a migrant bird arriving from elsewhere They are normally found along the coastline south of Bombay, Andamans and Nicobar islands, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, etc. It is largely dependent on water for its feed. I noticed this bird in our campus adjacent to a marshy area beside a running stream.
It has many features in common with the white breasted Kingfisher.
It was after I heard from Dr Sanjeeth Peter who photographed eight species of Kingfisher, I began to take an interest in identifying them.
I have often noticed white-breasted Kingfisher in our garden (below).
One interesting about the Kingfishers is that the colour is contrastingly different form other usual birds that even without a binocular one can spot them at a distance.
