Distant and closer views !

I walked past this tapioca plant a few times this morning and I missed the sight of the hanging drops till the morning sun made the water drops illuminated! I had to come closer to the plant to view this clearly!

How we see is dependent on how closely we look!

The physical look is important. For a clinician, the presence of a faint port wine stain on the face or prominence of capillaries in the conjunctiva can represent two significant neurological in children , which might manifest with other clinical signs later! There are times, one might miss them unless one looks carefully and intently.

The perceptive look is decisive. The prediction of the NITI AYOG specialists was that the COVID 19 will show a flattening curve in India by the 16th of May, 2020. But the opposite is happening now, with 5000 new patients reported in the last 24 hours. If we miss the true picture in our perception we can harm others or mislead ourselves.

I realised from how I missed the hanging drops that we need to look in order to find and not look casually or unmindfully!

I made the same error while walk passing the butter cups. I saw the whole bush full of flowers looking most colourful in the drizzle. As I went closer to the bush, I noticed the honey bee gathering nectar even in a drizzle. I missed this sight form a distance. I was not expecting honey bees in the rain.

We need to look to find what is hidden. Truth can remain in ambush. Details of information can remain concealed. We might be so used to the familiar that we do not expect anything other than the usual and therefore miss the unexpected.

Even a familiar sight is not the replica of what we have seen several times. Every sight, news, event, however common they might be, there might be something different some times, which might make a difference.

I learned something more about the intense way or searching way of looking from the wood merchant who came to buy teak wood in our garden. He dug the bed of the teak tree for about one foot to see if the stem had any decay or hole in the side which might make the stem hollow. Out of the ten teak trunks he explored, he found one which had a gaping hole below the ground. When the tree was cut the hollow in the centre extended to six feet.

Looking beyond and behind the obvious is one way of seeing what is not obvious.

This the significance of dreams. Sometimes truths we do not feel comfortable to entertain ordinarily would appear in dreams. It is a way our soul reveals what is already perceived by it. There are well defined steps to interpret dreams. Therefore what is in the dream might be only symbolic of the truth which is  beyond symbolism!

It is a good practice to learn to look, see and perceive!
