The appearance of flowers in the garden, when it is raining heavily, is the same as before. Their colour and elegance do not get diminished.
They are present in the garden announcing the strength within, to withstand the heavy downpour!
They look fragile, but are not droopy or appear damaged!
During a recent conversation I discovered how one can get gloomy or downcast after the conversation! What we heard or did not hear can cause the inward orientation towards gloominess or dejection!
It was after this I noticed the brilliant and warm appearance of these flowers. The last two photos of the flowers taken while it was raining, reveraled their ability to overcome the impact of water falling on the petals!
The ability to overcome!
A mother while talking about the frequent outbursts of anger of her daughter, for short periods, after which she behaved as if nothing happened, wondered how she could cope without reciprocating angrily. She mentioned that if she did not react, her daughter recovered sooner. I thought that was the answer. The inner composure of peace subsumes the expressed anger. The angry behaviour does not call forth for a reactive behaviour.
I watched the petals of the flowers in the rain. They bend and sway in the rain, but returns to stay erect. Those changes are transient.
This often can be a guide to consider our behaviour in difficult circumstances. What causes a response from within, arises from a considered choice of behaviour and not as an impulsive act.
The thoughtful responses in difficult situations, would call for living inwardly centred. We see and hear, but can protect ourselves from being carried away, if we practice discernment and responses.
I noticed this yesterday. It was raining and there were places in the road with flowing water. I noticed the driver ahead of me slowing down to avoid splashing water on the pedestrians and scooterists. He was an exception, as other motorists drove as usual, splashing water all around them.
He saw and felt for others. He drove the car slowly!
What an example of thinking and feeling, leading to a thoughtful behaviour and mindful action!
The radiant presence of the flowers in the rain, announces that there is enough within us to overcome adversities to behave mindfully!
