Usually the nutmeg trees flower once to produce fruits at one time of the year. This year most trees flowered on a few occasions as seen from the different generations of the nutmeg fruits in these two trees. I heard farmers talk about it as a strain on the tree. The incessant rains with the in between dry spells unusual for August and September this year, might be one cause for this flowering, which was spread out over a few months.
We have had to cut about fifty overgrown trees during the last five years. We planted double the number of trees to replace them and to preserve the green cover in our garden. We took some measures to prevent soil erosion by building walls and creating a drainage system.
There is an overgrowth of weeds in the property; we prevented this from spreading by converting the in between land space with lawn grass. This prevents soil erosion to some extent.
I realise that farming is an effortful activity. The science of agriculture is what regulates the Nitrogen cycle and the soil conditions.
The earth is our dwelling place. It is our larger temporary home. Tending the earth soil is one way of preserving the earth.
