A Brazilian Flower

We have two bushes of Tibouchina urvilleana, a Brazilian plant with spectacular flowers most of the time in bloom since we planted them in pots six months ago. It is also known as Princess flower and Glory bush.

The flower is purple in colour and the plant has soft hairy leaves. It can grow in to a shrub and tree. It can almost fade away in winter only to return to full life in the spring.

What fascinates me about this flower is its design, colour and petal formation, which has a inward folded pattern at the edge. The flower lasts at least ten days. It is mildly fragrant and remains fresh all the days its life.

I find some inspiration from this flower. It is gently present in the garden. I have not noticed nectar seeking insects around the flower. Its elegance is in its quiet and inviting presence.

This flower gives away a secret for our reflection. Our presence in our homes and places of work can be just this form of silent presence. Our actions and attitudes can be our gift to the environment in which we exist.

A small flower distinguishes itself because of its colourfulness!

Our conduct and behaviour are the synonyms for colourfulness. Who we are to others relationally is what really matters! It is this which helps in our  formation and that of others.

The words, initiation, formation and integration summarie the purpose of our being- we are initiated into life and calling; we are being formed through what we do and our daily living is a journey to find integration by living coherently and purposefully!
