A covered lake!

A waterbody fully covered by weeds! This lake is about one kilometre away from the hospital where Anna and I work. We take a detour on our way back home from the hospital sometimes to pass by this lake as it is normally covered by water lilies and lotus plants with their carpet of flowers. Now what one can see is a carpet of weeds and scattered water bottles discarded by visitors to the site.

It is a lake with the potential for boating and joy rides for families.

This sight suggests that the lake was abandoned for a while. It is in a scenic spot overlooking a rolling hill and with an open space all round it. It has a boat house with a boat, which too is in an abandoned state.

I wonder what might be the state of the marine life underneath the carpet of weeds! I did not spot anyone in the pursuit of fishing!

How terrible it is to allow a lake to look an eyesore, which in normal times provided a breathtaking panorama!

To be negligent of nature's gifts  is a bad stewardship.

I spoke to a few people who knew people in the local panchayat responsible for the upkeep of the lake! Anything that needs attention like the upkeep of roads, drainage, public garden, etc. seem to receive less attention now as the state officials are desperate to contain the spread of COVD 19! This sad sight is only one of the several examples of a failing system, which is unable to cope with the demands. Even some officials have contracted the infection!

A civil society which is vigilant would respond to such situations with great attention. I wait for it!
