A Farmer's ritual!

The farmer who cultivate tapioca burn the stems after collecting the tubers. This sight is common in the farm during this season.

This sight reminded me of what farmers in Punjab and Haryana do because of which there is air pollution in Delhi during winter months. In a rural setting with acres of vegetation and trees this might not be an issue. But the message of using biodegradable practices has not reached the farmers in our villages.

I saw another farmer excavate the ground to bury leaves and sliced stems and cover it with mud pile, till it is turned in to compost. This too happens side by side.

The distress which the farmers face now is scarcity of farm labourers. The acres of rose feels which remain uncultivated is on account of this.

The protest of farmers in Delhi truly tells a story we are hesitant to hear. The prime minister of India is pushing ahead to build a new parliament house and a residential block for himself in New Delhi, while thousands of farmers are gathered not too far from that site, to represent their desperate needs for six months now!

A farmer is under trial! The farmer is the custodian of the Mother Earth and provides us with food!

Think of them!
