The serial daily photographs during a week of Lilies from our garden is a good collection of three families of Lilies. There are buds to blossom, blossoming flowers and ageing flowers in the above series.
I found this generational presence of flowers in this cluster of flowers a symbol of growth and transition from one stage to the other. Even when there are ageing flowers in the last photo, there are buds yet to blossom! There is a progression and continuity of life !
It is the hospitable soil conditions and atmospheric ambience that favour this cycle of life!
Our homes are the places where life has roots at all ages of life. The nurture of children, those in young life, mid life and late mid life and those who are ageing takes place in our homes.
During the recent Christmas and new year seasons, I remember seeing a confluence of generations of families singing during Church services and community gatherings. Most families had representatives of different generations. It is when we see families with different generations coming together, we get a glimpse of the richness family life and home brings to influence the society that we are part of!
We had carol rounders visiting us two days before Christmas. The organisers told us that they made an extra effort to visit homes of senior citizens and those who are house bound! What a mindful way of connecting with those who could have been forgotten.
The elegance and aliveness that I noticed in these three families of Lilies of three generations, brought cheer and enthusiasm about the mission of nurturing families!
I found during the last two years since Anna and I took leave from our professional work, we have had time to be in touch with more families. What an encouragement it is to feel connected and be involved in the journey experiences of families! It is an experience of giving and receiving!
