Peace initiative by grieving people!

The news of about five hundred people dying in a hospital in Gaza, following bomb attacks is the latest in the series of the terrifying news we hear today about the Israeli-Palestine war. The situation there is not favourable for civilian life, leave alone access to basic facilities that families need.

I do not come across a definite proposal or its pursuit by any neutral countries for ceasefire and negotiation.

Why is there a shortage of statesmen or women in the global political leadership, who can be a voice of reason to bring restraint and initiate negotiation!

Someone said, it might not be the third world war, but it is a war with huge human losses and serious injuries with no ceasefire or peace in sight!

If there is a 500 km underground tunnel in Gaza, it is a creation of several years of excavation. I wish the killing of terrorists is not the sole purpose of this war, but a collaborative effort to revive the idea of peace and two neighbours, Palestine and Israel living as neighbours!

Let the sight and news of grieving families awaken within us, a new consciousness of justice, peace and goodwill that we need to strive for!

I heard a story of a single mother, who lost her school going child, following a fall from the bicycle on the road with pot holes.   He lost his balance and fell hitting his head on the road. Immediately after the funeral, what this grieving woman did was to fill the pot holes with earth in the area, where her son fell and suffered that fatal injury. Seeing what this grieving mother did, the local community came forward to protect the travellers on the road by filling the pot holes along the five kilometre road. The local Panchayat  came forward to do the rest.

A grieving woman created a memorial for her son by repairing the road! Grief became a motivation for this mother to save others from a tragedy.

The thousands grieving on both sides of the Israel-Palestine conflict  call out for peace, to save others from suffering the way, they have been through, and to bring prosperity to the region !

In the book, Option B, Sheryl Sandberg narrated the story of the loss of her husband Dave,  in a Gym accident and shared her experiences of understanding those going through grief. The Option B for her was  living with grief to share in the grief of  others!

Every person who experienced grief in his or her life is a neighbour to those in grief.
