A season of Giving!

As I walk past these sights in our garden and elsewhere, I find the plants and trees giving themselves to us.

They give away what they possess!

We receive the flowers and fruits that they give!

This thought has been on my mind for several weeks now.

The plants or trees do not show any weariness in giving! They give away in every season.

The plants or trees do not stop us from harvesting their produce.

Every time I gather rose flowers from our garden for the flower vase, I do it without a thought of taking permission from the plant to cut its flowers.

Giving is the ambience in nature.

Because the earth gives, we live and grow.

I have become even more conscious of this habit of giving because giving is also painful! The giving habit creates a sense of loss sometimes. It is when we feel that way we withdraw from giving.

How does one turn the pain of giving to an experiencing of blessing others!

I observed this the other day, when a friend sent me a copy of letter a I wrote in 1983 to remind me of the encouragement it brought.

When we give we are to think of the good it might bring to others. Then any feeling of loss gets subsumed in the joy of giving!

The Christmas is one such occasion, when we remember God becoming incarnate to give Himself fully to humankind!
