It was a festive occasion in the department where I work yesterday, when we had a farewell get-together for Seena and Feby. They contributed to the life and work of the department for over a yar a now. Seena and Feby leave us to join their husbands overseas. It was a sorrowful and cheerful occasion: sorrowful because they were not ready ready to leave and we felt bereft; cheerful because their contributions were remembered and they were many and unique. They were not just ordinary professionals but exemplified professionalism, competency and mindfulness. We closed the mid day meeting listening to the carols they sang at Christmas time in the department and for the college gathering.
We have had now eighteen professionals who worked with us in the last seven years, all of whom except one left following their marriage and the one for further studies.
Each of them has left memories that last. Seena is a person of wide variety of creative skills, who used all of which to make the Christmas cheer special with many handcrafted items. Her last involvement as an occupational therapist was to design the second sensory-motor room in the department. Feby is an efficient speech therapist who was abundantly child friendly. She was a computer wizard who was excellent in problem solving. Both of them leave a void. I felt at a loss yesterday because both of them leave at a time when the department needed them most.
It is along process to find replacements for them. Till them rest of us would carry extra load of responsibilities. Such seasons of stress are not desirable for stability of services. But we live and work with some limitations.
Farewell Seena and Feby! Thank you for enriching the lives of children and blessing us with your warm and caring presence. In your absence, we shall grow in appreciation for your time with us recalling your many contributions. You leave us inspired with your good examples.
