Practice or habit!

It is a regular sight in the garden- the wood pecker climbs a coconut tree from the bottom to the top in  a spiralling upward movement with pauses in between..

Is its daily practice or just a habit!

All wood peckers in tropics are tree climbers by nature. They find their prey in the barks of trees. They climb to find food.

It is an existential drive and is an instinct. It finds its food to survive by this.

Our habits are reason driven.

Our grand son seeing me wash the car asked me,'Why do you have to wash the car'! It is obvious that car surface needs maintenance. Its paint needs protection from dust and air pollutants.

It set me thinking. We develop a habit because there is a reason behind it.

Sometimes a habit can cause inconvenience to others. Someone had dropped water on the granite floor and I watched a person slip and fall while walking over it.

It is necessary to audit our habits. Do our habits cause difficulties to others!

The habits of carefulness and mindfulness ought to be the pattern adults follow!

I saw this at work place yesterday. All my colleagues were trying to help each other to do what was necessary even after it was time for them to leave. The habit of mindfulness! It comes by conscious awareness of others and their rights to wellness!
