The inclined upward growth of the coconut palms in a holiday resort surprised me. I do not remember seeing such acute inclinations of the coconut palms earlier. To stay rooted with such an inclination and grow tall might be something unusual.
The unusual for other trees might be usual for the coconut palms.
When we observe something unusual, it invites our attention to know more about it.
As the coconut trees often grow tall even up to seventy five meters, they look for space to grow taller, which would not be blocked by other trees in the viscinity.
From the very beginning, the coconut palm is inclining towards that open space!
In the Transactional Model of child development, there is an adapted child ego-state in an adult's life when the adult tries to please the parent's wish for oneself! An adult is returning to be under the parental aspiration for his or her future.
As against is the free child in each person, who transcends such inclinations and builds his or her life based on the choices a person makes, uninfluenced by the earlier ego state.
This to me is a fundamental perspective to grow into adulthood!
The freedom to be oneself under the frame of reference, moral and personal one chooses, as an adult is what matters for the adult formation. Instead many adults live as prisoners of the expectations of parents or as imitators of influential persons.
The sight of the coconut palm growing up to be itself, impressed upon me as a lesson for consideration, while growing up to be an adult!
Is my life a reflection of my inner life, which is what I am or a struggle to imitate somebody, even a role model, or please parents by conforming to their expectations!
