Anna returned after her morning walk with fruits, vegetables and flowers, from our garden! Since Anna got actively involved with gardening, there is a facelift to our garden. We have new plants and the old ones look well tended for.
When I saw this, a verse form the Lord's Prayer, 'Give us this day our daily bread, came to my mind. Anna collects enough vegetables from the garden almost every day. That saves us form being dependent on the vegetables from the market.
I felt an enormous sense of fulfilment in Anna's face for having been able to turn our garden into yielding what we need. This involved Anna attending to the plants everyday and watering them.
The return from the little we do can be enormous.
I realise that finding time for others and accompanying them can be enormously significant for others. A family who lives in Ireland telephoned a few days back to tell us about their fourteen years old son, who is doing well at school after a slow start academically. The father recalled the support he received during their visits. He recalled how they were given time to share and explore home based support for their son.
Living by giving is a vocation in itself.
I sometimes struggle with this as I get older. It calls for patience to listen and discern. Some families are too strongly opinionated and some others live with sense of helplessness. To be equally fair to people who are differently positioned in their capacity and availability calls for finding the way amidst the mess that they are in.
Give a little and that would bring a lot in return!
