We celebrated Susan's birthday yesterday in the department. We remembered her seven years in the department and recollected her contribution to make the department come alive with some useful services for children and families.
As I watched the cake being cut to share the pieces with each of us, I was captured by the candle that was lit and placed in front of the cake. The candle spread its light on the cake and it had acquired a reddish glow on one side of the cake.
At every birthday, when a cake is cut and shared with others, the birthday celebrant is offering his or her blessings to others in gratitude and appreciation. A cake at a birthday is a symbol of life, which is shared with others.
The secret is that life itself is a reflection of God's light in one's life! Life is a radiance of what is hidden in our lives! The treasures of God in our earthen vessel !
