I find that the Barbets are good at spotting ripe fruits in our garden. Before other birds or squirrels find them, Barbets would have come to look if they are ripe. This Barbet came searching for the berries but did not pluck them as they might not have been ripe enough. So the waiting continues!
Every day, since the day the violence broke out in May, 2023 in Manipur, between two communities, most of us are waiting to see peace ushering in! Instead even yesterday there was protest and firing!
There is another violent scene now erupting in Haryana!
We live in a surcharged situation in India, where the relationships have become fragile between communities.
What disturbs me most is the 'unfeeling' attitude of those in authority! Why is that no compensation packages are not yet announced to those who lost their homes and property! The schools that children used to go to, do not exist in some places. The Tamil Nadu government announced a large package of support for people of Manipur! Why are we not hearing of similar responses from the central government, state governments, churches, hospitals, charitable organisations etc!
Most people are peace loving! It is those in leadership positions, who impose their vested interests on others and provoke them to pursue violence for securing personal benefits!
I wonder whether we are loosing the feelings for others!
Can a nation be a home for all its the citizens, unless we create the spirit of nearness and fondness for each other!
The diversion of attention, by the leadership of India by highlighting the G20 nation meeting, or projecting India as the emerging third largest economy in the world, or creating the largest manufacturing potential for semiconductors, etc suggests that we think with our minds and fail with our hearts!
I wish all the churches save all the money they spend on their festivals during the two years from now, and contribute to restore people in Manipur to at least subsistence level!
The Barber's search for its feed is a symbol of thousands searching for their daily bread in a violent prone neighbourhood! If a neighbour is the one who would set fire to a house or facilitate it, then what is left as hope for many people!
Mr Rahul Gandhi speaks of love and brotherhood! He could have clarified that his comments in a political rally, because of which he is facing a defamation case, whose hearing is in the Supreme Court today, that he speaks for social justice and not for tarnishing people. One could commend on the corrupt practice of a person in a soberly manner as a questions or thought! Mr Gandhi has what it takes to bring healing between people, seeing the message he spreads through his approach to difficult situations. He ought to be an example of practicing politics with dignity regardful of others, even when he disagrees with the ideology of others.
The Barbet coming and leaving without finding its feed, reminds me of the need to be steadfast in searching and waiting for peace!
