The Magpie Robin flew away in my sight and I tried capturing its flight! What surprised me while down loading the picture was the shadow of the bird in the ground.
The sunshine on the bird left the shadow on the ground.
It has a message for me. When attention falls on us, others around us begin to form impressions about us. Others perceive us as achievers, defaulters, strategists, success driven...! All these shadows that stick with us when we believe to get carried away by believing the impression others have of us. The temptation is to believe what others convey about us and loose the anchor on the reality of our inner lives.
What resides in us as our thoughts, attitudes, imaginations, beliefs, etc. are truly the authentic us and not the shadows we see of us in the impressions or images others create of us.
The true self that Erickson referred to is a discovery all oft scan make if only we free ourselves form the images we form of ourselves.
All images are just shadows and when others do not sing the chorus of praise or recognition, the shadow ceases to exist.
So it is good to pause and consider whether wee seek to create shadows or live authentically conscious of who we are within ourselves.
The dichotomy that exists between our true self and our shadow can get reduced, when we set our heart on an inner pilgrimage of becoming our true self and live that way without the need to create an image of visibility!
