This table clock is more than hundred and twenty five years old! BThis clock keeps time and does not need any correction even once a year. Our friends who inherited this are into their eighties. This antique clock belongs to the first generation of clocks manufactured and it stays elegant in look and superb in function.
My parents had wall clocks. One had a life time of forty years and another is still functioning after fifty years needing no attention except weekly winding.
Anna and I bought five wall clocks during the last four years and three needed repair already!
So Old is Gold..
It also reminds of the consumer spirit that conditions manufacturing in the current season. The programmed attrition is the logic which the computer manufacturers use in their manufacturing. I have the fifth lap top in 25 years, each of the previous four ‘giving up' on its own!
Only if the products fail, people would buy new ones. Only then there is sale good enough for profiting! Now the marketing strategy is to offer longer guarantee for products for domestic use. My experience is that once the guarantee period is over, its life time is also almost over!
I remember being able to use ready made shirts for five years or more when I had just a few shirts. Now even with more shirts, the shirts do not keep its texture and finish beyond a year or two !
Manufacturing for huge profit or for service is a question that is worth pursuing for an ethical foundation!
