Almost all household in a village close to Karigiri at Vellore which I visited recently had chickens for their livelihood1 They get eggs for themselves and also to sell in the market.
What fascinated me was how it happened. A family who had hens gave away chicks to neighbours on the condition that they when they breed chicks would give away one hen to their neighbours. So over a period of three years all families who wanted to rear chickens received a gift of their from their neighbours.
This is an example of 'loving your neighbour as yourself'!
It is good to bring neighbours to our consciousness as much as possible. It is one act of kindness that creates neighbourly feeling of nearness which is the beginning of the consciousness of being a community of people living together!
