Time and timing

During a recent visit to India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, I was curious to know the story of this tree in the photo- dry stem with few fresh shoots. Pests had damaged this tree that its stem and branches had to be cut off. The estate department was waiting for permission from the environmental officer excavate the tree and have another mahogany sapling planted at the same site. In the mean time, following the recent monsoon, the care taker noticed that there were some new shoots from the stem. This happened after six months. It was a surprise sight.

We live in  a culture expecting instant returns. The general rule of nature is the opposite. The writer of the book  of  Ecclesiastes in chapter 3. verses 1 and 2, explains this, vividly and forcefully."To everything there is a season and time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;"

This is the time of Kiros- the opportune time. There is an appointed and appropriate time for every thing in life.

An infant one day suddenly decides to get up from sitting position around 9 moths of age. Often a child attempts this on his or her own without any external prompting. There is an inner instinct or urge, which gets translated into an effort.

There is an order and pattern in God's creation. We get tuned to God's larger purposes through the habit of prayer and carrying the Scripture in our hearts as a' light unto our path and lamp unto our feet'.
