Delphine, was another member in our home for 11 years till Aswathy and Anandit wanted to have her in their home from March, 2012.
It was Anandit, who chose her when she was about 20 days old, from among other three puppies, the dog owner introduced to us. Anandit's criterion was that it was she who spontaneously came towards him.
We were told she was a tibetan terrier, but it took us no time to realize that she was an intelligent dog but a mixture of two or three breeds.
The first few months went uneventfully excepting chewing our foot wear, balls we offered her to play with and biting off the corners of chairs. Arpit chose her name, borrowed from German, which meant, dolphin. The family who bred her was a vegetarian and they instructed us to give her vegetarian food. But Delphine made us break that protocol as she would wait next to our dining table, when ever we had non-vegetarian dish on the table.
There are three things special about her. She would sit close to Anna, wherever she sits to read, work on the computer and follow her wherever she went at night. Anna, was pleased with her warm touch and cold lick on her toes. If visitors came, when Anna was alone at home, Delphine will be surely at Anna's feet.
Every time, I left home for a travel, she would hide under the bed from the time she saw me pack the bag. On my return she would hang around me for a few days. Every morning around 4.30 am, as if it is timed like an alarm, she would come to our bed and stroke my hand till I reach out to her to allow her to lick my hand. She would come to the kitchen and wait at its threshold till I give her warm milk in her bowl.
When we welcomed Amy and Aswathy into our home, it was interesting to see how she behaved differently to them unlike to others. She immediately reached out to them and wanted to be noticed by them to receive strokes and hugs. It is as though she had known them all along.
We gave her much attention and she won our hearts by her touching acts.
