A puppy under attack

On my way home, one evening I watched this fierce fight between two dogs and a puppy. There are fixed spaces where different families of dogs live and feed from food offered by dog lovers in this campus.

This puppy had trespassed into the territory of another dog family. What you see in the photo was the reaction of the adult dogs to the puppy.

Today, while standing in the queue to collect my cup of coffee, two people ignored the queue. One person reacted to this and pushed away the trespasser. He boasted about his achievement. I felt that at best, we could have requested them to join the queue. Even if he does not, give him the benefit of doubt. They would not have had their breakfast and may be desperately thirsty.

None of has any private spaces. We have only common spaces or jointly held spaces. We are only keepers of what we own ourselves. We have come empty handed to this world and shall return empty handed.

I like the way Mrs. Usha Jesudasan, a well known author and peace activist, refused to have a compound wall to her house at Vellore. When Anna and I visited her after she bought the house about five years back, she mentioned to us that she wanted to have an open boundary. Her boundaries merge with two houses on both sides of her house and one of the neighbors use her front passage for their entrance as it is easier than their own passage.

It is not what others do or do not do, which shall determine our actions and reactions. We are called to convey that others are valuable, even when they have not been fair to us. We have no life independent of our neighbour.
