I am still not sure whether this small bird is a Flower Pecker or Sunbird because, it is too small to know of its morphology from a distance. It is a bird that I have noticed often in the flowering trees, hovering over the flowers possibly for honey. By habit, they move quickly and impulsively, that I found it difficult to photograph them with my 35 mm compact camera. Even this photo is blurred.
I have deliberately followed this bird for three reasons.
It is quick in movement and escapes easily easily when chased by squirrels and crows. Although its briskness appears to make it clumsy, it is to its an advantage in finding its bird space.
They are often in pairs or in small groups, not so strictly as the warblers are often. The chirping is in bouts, repetitive and musical. That appears to be a form of their communication between themselves.
They look elegant and aesthetically appealing. Each may measure about 7 cms. in length and weigh about 150 grams. The colour combination is visually most appealing. It does not give away its beauty except to the beholder, who pursues it patiently.
A small bird in a big universe! It has its unique features. It holds your attention because small is beautiful.
Even this small bird has its defined space and food! It lives freely and fully. It is this message that I remember, when I think of this bird species.
It is in nature we find realities that comfort our souls in difficult times.
