It is common to find a single Cormorant on the same tree adjacent to the stream below in the nutmeg garden in the morning and evening. It is a convenient perch for it to dry itself after immersing in water for its feed, as the morning or the evening sunshine is alike on this tall tree.
On one occasion, I found two of them perched, in the same tree in the morning! They come searching for their feed. When water bodies dry up in the summer months they look for wetlands where a canal or stream provides them water to find their feed.
While watching the movements of the Cormorants, I happened to notice a brown throated Sunbird perched in a tall tree. Usually the Sunbirds are seen in a group of two or three. It is when Sunbirds are ready for courtship they move out of their filial group.
Two Cormorants and one Sunbird, both telling a story of what they are looking forward to become!
The instinct for courtship and to become a family is spontaneous to the avians.
I was tracing the recent behaviour of the leaders of the few nations who are currently in the news. I suspect that they think and act in a partisan way. They promote a divisive attitude. The unilatateral decision of the president of the USA to take over Gaza, which was designated conventionally for Palestinians to settle down, is such a one sided action. What seems to matter is might and power, however unreasonable the decision can be! I find a similar tendency in India, where social life is viewed with a political lens.
The two Cormorants and a Sunbird brought message of family, friendship and fondness!
That revived me from a feeling of loss, where war, conflict and threat dominate to become the language of transaction between people or nations!
The peace of Christmas, which we recollected two months ago, is fading away!
For the birds above, their behaviour is to pursue relationship and wellness!
