A Third crop of Rembutan !

We have been plucking Rembutan from one of the two trees from May onwards. We are now looking forward to the third crop! During the previous year we had just one crop.

I hear from our gardener and neighbours that some people are turning their gardens to cultivate Rembutan, as it yields well and brings return on investment! Rubber estates are  being converted for this purpose.

It is a fruit which squirrels or birds do not feed on as they would do with the mangoes or papayas.

It is a tropical fruit and therefore is brought to India from other countries. Now the local production would compete with the imported ones!

What fascinates me about this is that it is an easy tree to look after and the yield is usually rewarding!

For people like me who have very little scientific knowledge of gardening, it is good to start with simple fruit bearing trees to feel encouraged!
