From a flower to Fruit!

Most flowers become fruits.

The guava fruits carry the remnant of the flowers at least in the early stage of the fruit formation. After the remnant of the flowers have dried away, is a depression on that area which is a reminder of the flower form where the fruit was formed.

I am warmed by this sight. The fruits bear the memory of the flowers from which they were formed.

We as humans are formed by years of relationships within our families and circle of friends with whom we have had association. The alumni of batches of students at the Christian Medical College, Vellore, gather together for their class reunion even after fifty years. There is a belonging which shaped their lives. I feel fascinated by such vivid expressions of memorials.

I work in an institution where faculty leave quietly! There is a welcome in the social media when faculty arrive to join the institution. I wish we remember those who leave as well, because that is how we create an attitude of gratefulness.  It is when we are grateful we feel more connected with each other.

When Dr C.K.Eapen left the college after almost three decades of service, most of us felt that a medical statesman has left us. His presence was a symbol of service, charity, courteously, friendship and excellence in service and academics. He was tall ion stature and equally tall in his conduct and character. He practiced a form of of patient care, which has been model and oft talked about as a norm.

Remembering is one way of staying grateful for what we receive. And 'what do we have except what has been given to us'!
