A whistling squirrel

The calls of the squirrel are distinct clutters sounds, which is what this squirrel was producing. But in between there were whistling sounds, which is what made me go out to search for this tree squirrel.

I was able to reach close to about 200 meters and I found the squirrel become arched in between with the tail brought before its mouth. The tip of the tail kept moving between the upper an lower jaws of red mouth which produced different tones o whistling sounds. I suspect that the tip of the tail 9third photo) modulated the sounds even to produce a whistling sound in a low tone. Then the body would return to the position of war tis in the first photo and the normal sound of the calls would continue.

It is the first time I noticed this variations of the sounds that the squirrel produced. Looking a the sites of squirrels in the internet, there are references in the variations of the sound depending on the mood of the squirrel. If there is  a distress, or infestation or anger the sounds of the calls seem to vary.

Of the different type so the squirrels the tree squirrel seems to live in places where they can find food easily. As they live on ripe fruits, berries, nuts, seeds, they seem to be stationed in some wooded places. They are swift climbers and can reach any height.

I walk pass squirrels, but today's discovery fascinated  me to keep squirrels as yet another subject of interest in nature.
