The freedom of adaptation!

What intrigued me during the morning walk in a village, was finding most of the birds perched in the electric live cables, over the vast stretch of paddy fields.

The trees are at the edges of the paddy field. The birds are looking for insects, grass hoppers, dragon flies and millets in and around the paddy field. So they find the cables a convenient perch in the morning before they fly away to distant places.

The birds find the cable useful for two reasons. It gives them a comfortable position for their morning grooming exercise. Secondly the height provides them a good view around and below.

I noticed how birds who are single or in pairs choose the tall buildings adjacent to the paddy field, or tall trees at the edge of the paddy fields or the cables for their perches ! They plan well although they are not required to 'sow, gather or toil' to receive their daily bread  as they are provided for!

This attitude of living in readiness is an important feature of bird life- they are flight ready and feed ready all the time. The birds have to be swift in the air as predators can attack them any time; or ought to be ready to fly swiftly as soon as they spot a dragon fly in the air.

They adapt to perch in the cable and stay flight and feed ready ! It looks to me that the birds behave as if it is a normal experience, although trees and the shelter of the foliage would be a safer place for them to feel more protected! I get a sense that they do not live or behave carrying the stress of adapting!

They live freely and fully!

That is a message that resonates within me, while watching this bird behaviour around the vast stretch of paddy field which is not harvest ready now!
