Being and belonging!

Three buds from a stem! Two short in height when compared to the the middle one. Perhaps both of them would grow to be tall like the central one before they blossom. It might remain the same.

Whatever it might be, the three buds give me a message of being and belonging.

It is present fully where it is placed. Each bud has its features and prospects. Its being is for flowering.

All three of them belong to the rose plant. It is the leaves and the flowers which reveal the genotype of the rose plant.

There are similarities and differences among the buds. But they exist to flower and reveal the fullness of the rose plant.

The social and political milieu in India currently are charged with polarised thinking. There is a language of hate and competition to displace others to capture space for visibility and control.

It is in this backdrop the season of advent invites us to dwell on the message of Christmas. Jesus of Nazareth b became present to humanity to give a message of peace, love and goodwill, the announcements of which came to the shepherds first.

All our celebrations of the birth of Jesus ought to be primarily for sharing the good news who live in the margins of the society. It is one festival, where others matter and not just ourselves.

We 'live, move and have our being in God' and belong to others in our calling! It is in revealing and outliving this reality we become followers of Jesus of Nazareth.
