A candle is a symbol of many things.
One symbol which to me is personal and inspiring is the light and life giving it is to others all around it.
A labourer or farmer working in the field brings life to others. It is the produce which they help to bring forth from the soil that sustains life.
In that sense, a labourer or a farmer is both a light and life giving to all of us.
As this labourer works in our field day after day, I am touched by his perseverance to' tend the field' to make it ready to plant for a yield.
A farmer sows or plants and waits for the fruits. The parable spoken by Jesus of Nazareth about the farmer waiting till the harvest time, without removing the weeds, lest the plants are also uprooted, is a moving narration of the steadfastness of hope with which a farmer lives.
To all of you, who work in the farm and give us food, let me offer in gratitude this candle, as a symbol of light and life that you are to us.
