Evening garden visitors!

The tree pie was the first visitor, who hoped from one shrub or tree to another in a full circle and flew away. It does similarly in the morning as well. Sometimes, it does this to find a suitable nesting place. Otherwise it is a way of establishing its rights over a territory. I heard its bird call from every location and announces its presence affirmatively.

The second visitor was a Racket-Tailed Drongo, safely resting on  a live cable. It too announces its bird call. But it remained confined to a few locations before it flew away. I have noticed this Drongo on some mornings as well. Its body composure is elegant to watch. It has an overseeing look and refuses to be bothered by crows which appear to nudge them. It is certain of its place and position and creates an air of quiet confidence.

The third visitor of the evening in our garden was this cat. With the mark of the third eye on its forehead, it must be owned by someone. It was the first time I noticed it in our garden. It stayed on the compound wall watching the sights and scenes. Its stillness worried me. An angry or friendly cat can be still. I felt relived when it moved away after a while .

The fourth visitors visitor were a pair of black Drongo. The came and departed together. It was special to seem them in their formative journey to become a family. Their birds are loud and but tuneful. The had a settled or accomplished look.

The fifth was a Red whiskered Bulbul family, which I spotted for the first time today since the monsoon started. They are meticulous about their habitat and this is the season for their mating. They make nests with fine twigs, rootlets, grass, etc in thatched areas or in safe places. Their clean brown body with white underbelly gives them a distinct complexion.

As each of these bird friends cane and went to their nests, I got a sense of feeling visited. I still do not think that any one of them was tame and confiding. So our waiting continues to have more of them to make our garden their residence!

This is one of the special benefits of living  in a cottage. Although human contact is reduced from what we were used to be for forty years, we have animal friends who come unannounced and find food and shelter in our garden.

Life is for living and watching the creation come together in celebration!

It is good to have many bird and animal visitors! For they were created to belong to human environment according to the creation story in the book of Genesis in the Old Testament of the Bible!
