An Arch Dam !

Anna and I visited the Idukki Dam yesterday,  built across two tall mountains! For the engineering necessity, it was built as an arch with layers of concrete to give added strength to the dam!

Everything about this is rather unusual! It was the tribals who lived in this region in the fifties who made it known to the local government authorities of this large lake spread over several kilometres, which receives copious water supply from a river. With water level nearing 100 feet in the lake since the dam was built, the tall mountains fortify the dam!

On one side of the dam is a wild life sanctuary! it is a home for flora and fauna which is rich in diversity.

It is a place of considerable eco-friendliness unlike what we have seen in other touristic places!

Nature is the lasting tribute to the mystery of creation and God's order in nature!
