Shades of opinion

There are at least five shades of green in the foliage of the trees. This is mid spring in London this year. As the summer sets in, the contrasts of green become less visible. We can watch this in our mountains in India. It is nature's gift.

I come across many shades of opinions expressed in meetings on one issue. The discussions can gradually shift to endorse one and eliminate others, by repetitive statements by some and counter statements. The meeting becomes stressful and unpleasant. There are  some meetings, where, each opinion is heard, welcomed and given weightage. Such meetings seem to generate more insight, diversity of thoughts and ideas for lateral thinking. The members present, are comfortable because, decisions are made after exploring many options. The meeting is a forum for consultation and brain storming.

There will always be shades of opinion. It is not a reason for confrontation or proving a point. Meetings have the potential to provide fellowship, generate ideas, clarify issues, negotiate options, etc. When opinions are diverse, it is not a sign of division but only a call for more listening and better and prolonged negotiation. That is how we value people and not just use them.
