A mouthful !

Birds have to find their feed each day! They search and find it. They do not have a habit to store food.

Planting fruit bearing plants and shade giving trees would help in feeding the birds and protect other vegetation.  The birds in turn seed the garden with bird droppings!

In fact, birds create new gardens from bird droppings.

That was what Prof. Jacob John, recalled about the CMC Bagayam campus, when the land was purchased about seventy five years ago. The land was barren, dry without hope of plants and trees thriving in a water starved land.

With planting some trees and water harvesting in the land, green vegetations began to sprout. Birds kept coming and made the trees their home. They with their droppings made the campus into a semi forest of different trees,  bushes and creepers.

A new eco system evolved with staff residences, hostels, and the college building with its accessory units.  Several gardens were created with the whole campus becoming green. The re-cycled water along with the water conservations projects made the land a green stretch.

To make a garden a hospitable place is the starting point. When birds find welcome, they bring many other benefits along with it. There are bird watching groups who are looking for resident birds. Th resident birds pave the way for more birds to make the garden a habitual flight station. A garden becomes a home for feathered residents and visitors!

Make a garden, and we make the environment homely for humans, avians, and a hosts of  other living species!
