The tree island above, is one among the many, in a campus that I visited recently. It stands apart as a deliberately planned lung space in that campus, which has been expanding with many buildings in the last two decades.
How much we care is expressed in different ways. One expression is the respect and regard we offer to plants and trees and the space we offer to grow them. If at least one third of the total place in a campus is offered to the green the campus, it is a good start. Most campuses have only concrete structures.
The campus above has only one third of its pace as built in space. That is how the planners envisage campus for the future!
Let me suggest that while the urge is to monetise the land space with mechanise in view, the counter of it is, a value based approach to promote healthy living, by creating green belt in all campuses where people congregate, such as educational institutions, hospitals....!
That is the way of living mindfully of ourselves and of our environment!
